🧈🍬 Sweet Milk Fudge Squares
Ingredients
-
2 cups sugar
-
1 cup whole milk
-
¼ cup butter
-
1 tsp vanilla
-
Pinch salt
(That’s it. No shortcuts. No marshmallows.)
Instructions
-
Butter an 8×8 pan and set aside.
-
In a heavy saucepan, combine sugar and milk.
-
Cook over medium heat, stirring until sugar dissolves.
-
Stop stirring. Let mixture come to a gentle boil.
-
Cook until it reaches soft-ball stage (235–240°F)
(or drop a bit in cold water—it should form a soft ball). -
Remove from heat. Add butter and vanilla without stirring.
-
Let sit 5 minutes.
-
Beat with a wooden spoon until it thickens, loses gloss, and starts pulling from the pan.
-
Quickly pour into prepared pan and smooth.
-
Let cool, then cut into small squares.
💡 Grandma-level tips
-
Cloudy day = better fudge (humidity matters!)
-
Don’t scrape the pot when pouring (prevents graininess)
-
Beat just until thick—overbeating makes it crumbly
Optional variations (still old-school approved)
-
Sprinkle chopped pecans on top before setting
-
Add 1 Tbsp cocoa powder for chocolate milk fudge
-
Swap half the milk for evaporated milk for extra creaminess
These are sweet, simple, and dangerously nostalgic 🤍
