Hungarian Cheese Snacks (Sajtos Rúd)
Ingredients

2 cups (250 g) all-purpose flour

1 cup (100 g) grated Hungarian cheese (Trappista is traditional; mild cheddar works)

½ cup (113 g) cold butter, cubed

½ cup sour cream

1 egg yolk
-
1 tsp salt

½ tsp baking powder

Optional: pinch of caraway seeds or paprika
For topping

1 egg white (or beaten egg)

Extra grated cheese

Sesame or caraway seeds (optional)
Instructions

Make the dough:
Mix flour, salt, and baking powder. Cut in cold butter until crumbly.
Add cheese, sour cream, and egg yolk. Knead briefly until smooth. -
Chill:
Wrap dough and refrigerate for 30 minutes (important for flakiness). -
Roll & cut:
Roll dough to about ¼ inch (½ cm) thick.
Cut into thin sticks (about finger-length). -
Top:
Brush with egg white, sprinkle with cheese and seeds. -
Bake:
Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 12–15 minutes, until golden. -
Cool slightly & enjoy!
