🍅 Fried Green Tomatoes
Ingredients

3–4 firm green tomatoes

1 tsp salt

½ tsp black pepper

½ cup all-purpose flour

½ cup cornmeal (or breadcrumbs for a softer crust)

1 tsp paprika

½ tsp garlic powder (optional)

2 eggs
-
¼ cup milk or buttermilk
-
Vegetable oil (or bacon grease) for frying
Instructions

Slice the tomatoes

Cut tomatoes into ¼-inch thick slices.

Lightly salt them and let sit 5–10 minutes. Pat dry.

Set up dredging stations

Bowl 1: flour

Bowl 2: eggs whisked with milk or buttermilk

Bowl 3: cornmeal, paprika, garlic powder, pepper

Coat the tomatoes

Dredge each slice in flour → egg wash → cornmeal mixture.

Press gently so coating sticks.

Fry

Heat about ½ inch of oil in a skillet over medium heat (350°F / 175°C).

Fry tomatoes in batches, 2–3 minutes per side, until golden brown.

Drain & serve

Remove to a paper towel–lined plate.

Sprinkle lightly with salt while hot.
