Fried Alligator
Ingredients
-
1 lb alligator meat, cut into bite-sized pieces
-
1 cup buttermilk
-
1 cup flour
-
1 tsp salt
-
½ tsp black pepper
-
½ tsp paprika (optional)
-
Oil for frying (vegetable or peanut oil works best)
Instructions
-
Marinate the meat
-
Soak alligator pieces in buttermilk for 1–2 hours in the fridge.
-
This helps tenderize the meat.
-
-
Prepare the coating
-
In a bowl, mix flour, salt, pepper, and paprika.
-
-
Coat the alligator
-
Remove pieces from buttermilk and dredge in the flour mixture, pressing lightly to coat.
-
-
Heat the oil
-
Pour about 1–2 inches of oil in a skillet or deep pan.
-
Heat to 350°F (175°C).
-
-
Fry the alligator
-
Fry pieces in batches for 3–5 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown and cooked through.
-
Use a slotted spoon to remove from oil and drain on paper towels.
-
-
Serve
-
Serve hot with lemon wedges, dipping sauce, or a side of fries/coleslaw.
-
Tips
-
Don’t overcrowd the pan or oil temperature will drop
-
Alligator cooks quickly; overcooking can make it tough
-
Optional: Add Cajun seasoning to the flour for extra flavor
If you want, I can share a spicy Cajun version, an oven-baked version, or a fried alligator nuggets recipe for easier snacking.
Do you want me to do that?
