Amish Sugar Cookies
Ingredients

1 cup butter, softened

1 cup vegetable oil

1 cup granulated sugar

1 cup powdered sugar

2 large eggs

1 tsp vanilla extract

4½ cups all-purpose flour

1 tsp baking soda

1 tsp cream of tartar

½ tsp salt
Instructions

Cream fats & sugars
In a large bowl, beat butter, oil, granulated sugar, and powdered sugar until light and fluffy. -
Add wet ingredients
Beat in eggs and vanilla until well combined. -
Mix dry ingredients
In a separate bowl, whisk flour, baking soda, cream of tartar, and salt. -
Combine
Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture until a soft dough forms. -
Chill (important!)
Cover and refrigerate dough for at least 1 hour (or overnight for best texture). -
Bake

Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C)

Roll dough into 1½-inch balls and place 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheets

Lightly flatten with the bottom of a glass (optional)

Bake time
Bake 8–10 minutes, just until bottoms are lightly golden. Tops should stay pale. -
Cool
Let cookies rest on the sheet for 2 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
Optional Simple Amish-Style Frosting

2 cups powdered sugar

2–3 tbsp milk

½ tsp vanilla
Mix until smooth; spread on cooled cookies.
