Dream Cake Recipe
Ingredients
For the cake:
-
2½ cups (315g) all-purpose flour
-
2½ tsp baking powder
-
½ tsp baking soda
-
¼ tsp salt
-
1 cup (230g) unsalted butter, softened
-
2 cups (400g) granulated sugar
-
4 large eggs, room temperature
-
1 tbsp vanilla extract
-
1 cup (240ml) whole milk, room temperature
-
½ cup (120ml) sour cream or yogurt
For the frosting:
-
1 cup (230g) unsalted butter, softened
-
4 cups (500g) powdered sugar
-
2 tsp vanilla extract
-
2–4 tbsp heavy cream or milk
-
Optional: a pinch of salt
Optional add-ins:
-
Sprinkles, chocolate chips, or fruit for extra dreaminess
Instructions
-
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 8-inch (20cm) round cake pans.
-
Mix dry ingredients: In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
-
Cream butter and sugar: In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy (about 3–4 minutes).
-
Add eggs and vanilla: Beat in eggs one at a time, then add vanilla extract.
-
Combine wet and dry: Alternately add the flour mixture and milk to the butter mixture, beginning and ending with flour. Mix until just combined. Fold in sour cream.
-
Bake: Divide batter evenly between pans. Bake 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Cool in pans 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
-
Make frosting: Beat butter until creamy, gradually add powdered sugar, then vanilla and enough cream to reach desired consistency. Add a pinch of salt if frosting is too sweet.
-
Assemble: Spread frosting between layers and on top and sides of cake. Decorate with sprinkles, fruit, or chocolate if you like.
-
Enjoy: Slice, serve, and savor your dreamy creation!
💡 Tip: For an extra “wow” factor, brush the cake layers with a little simple syrup (equal parts sugar and water, boiled and cooled) before frosting—it keeps the cake moist and flavorful.
If you want, I can also give a shortcut version that’s just as dreamy but super quick using one bowl and no mixer.
Do you want me to do that?
