Monte Cristo Sandwiches
Ingredients (serves 2–4)

4 slices of bread (white, brioche, or sandwich bread)

2–4 slices of ham

2–4 slices of turkey (optional)

2 slices Swiss or Gruyère cheese

2 eggs

½ cup milk

Pinch of salt & pepper

Butter for frying

Powdered sugar (for topping)

Instructions

Assemble the sandwich:
Place ham, turkey, and cheese between two slices of bread. Press lightly. -
Make the egg batter:
Beat eggs with milk, salt, and pepper in a shallow bowl. -
Dip the sandwich:
Coat each side of the sandwich in the egg mixture. -
Cook:

Heat butter in a skillet over medium heat.

Fry sandwich 3–4 minutes per side, until golden brown and cheese melts.

Sprinkle with powdered sugar.

For extra crispiness: use a nonstick skillet and a little extra butter.
