Ingredients (serves 4)
- 8 slices Texas toast
- 1 lb ground beef
- ½ small onion, finely chopped
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- ¾ cup sloppy joe sauce (or ketchup + a little BBQ sauce)
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- Salt & pepper, to taste
- 1 cup shredded cheddar or Colby-Jack cheese
- Butter (for toasting)
Instructions
- Cook the meat
- Brown ground beef in a skillet over medium heat.
- Add onion and garlic; cook until soft.
- Drain excess grease.
- Stir in sloppy joe sauce and Worcestershire.
- Simmer 5–8 minutes. Season with salt & pepper.
- Toast the bread
- Butter both sides of Texas toast.
- Toast in a skillet or oven until golden.
- Assemble
- Spoon sloppy joe mixture onto toast.
- Sprinkle with cheese.
- Melt cheese
- Place under broiler or in oven 2–3 minutes until cheese melts.
- Serve
- Top with another slice of toast or eat open-faced.
